Commercial NMR fields up to 28.2 T at 1.2 GHz, enabled by a hybrid high-temperature-superconductor magnet.

Bruker Ascend GHz-class magnets offer 1.0, 1.1 and 1.2 GHz (28.2 T) with hybrid superconductors, a 54 mm bore and cryogenic shims.

GHz-class systems represent the upper end of commercial NMR. Bruker offers 1.0 GHz Ascend Evo and 1.1 and 1.2 GHz Ascend magnets; the latter reaches 28.2 T.

NMR sensitivity increases faster than linearly with field, and chemical-shift resolution increases linearly. In structural biology, this can turn overlapping large-protein spectra into assignable spectra. Applications include protein complexes, membrane proteins and amyloids that challenge 600–800 MHz systems.

The hybrid magnet has low-temperature superconductors outside (NbTi outer, Nb₃Sn middle) and a high-temperature superconductor in the central section. This design exceeds the field limit of conventional magnets. All GHz models have a standard 54 mm room-temperature bore. Persistent-current operation and cryogenic shims maintain homogeneity at about 2 K. Bruker says a 1% field decay would take centuries and external magnetic interference shielding reaches 99%. AVANCE NEO-X is the default console.
