Ultrahigh mass resolution plus ion mobility separates isomers that accurate mass alone cannot distinguish.

With TIMS ion mobility, timsMRMS delivers resolving power above 10 million and mass accuracy below 500 ppb.

timsMRMS combines magnetic resonance mass spectrometry with trapped ion mobility spectrometry (TIMS). Bruker describes it as bringing ion mobility to its most powerful class of mass spectrometer.

Even resolving power above 10 million cannot separate isomers with the same exact mass. Ion mobility adds a collision cross-section measurement to distinguish isomeric forms and enables conformation-selective fragmentation.

The platform is intended for complex samples that remain difficult after preliminary separation, including bio-oils, environmental samples, battery materials, metabolite mixtures and tissue imaging. The Maxwell magnet needs no liquid nitrogen or helium refills; it requires only gaseous helium and electrical power. A dual MALDI/ESI source is available, with optional APCI and APPI. Imaging uses a smartbeam 3D laser and microgrid technology.
