timsUltra AIP is an ion mobility mass spectrometer with an Athena Ion Processor for deep proteomics, single-cell analysis and biopsy samples.

timsUltra AIP is a third-generation timsTOF instrument built around the Athena Ion Processor. The manufacturer reports more than twice the signal compared with the previous generation and a threefold increase in sensitivity for peptide fragment ions.

The sensitivity gain broadens the range of applications for very limited sample material, including single cells, fine-needle biopsies and metaproteomic samples. One cited example identifies more than 5,000 proteins from a 250 pg sample load.

Ion mobility separation operates in PASEF mode with a duty cycle above 150 Hz and scanning rates of up to 300 Hz, while ion utilisation approaches 100%. The instrument supports CaptiveSpray Ultra 2 and VIP-HESI sources for plasma proteomics. Data processing tools include Bruker ProteoScape, TIMScore, TIMS DIA-NN and Spectronaut.
