Solid-state NMR with 7 mm rotors at 7 kHz through 0.4 mm rotors at 160 kHz, plus MAS cryoprobes with up to tenfold signal-to-noise gain.

Bruker solid-state NMR includes 0.4–7 mm CPMAS rotors up to 160 kHz and MAS CryoProbe sensitivity gains up to tenfold.

Solid-state NMR is built around the probe. In solids, anisotropic interactions are not averaged by molecular motion, broadening lines by kilohertz. Magic-angle spinning (MAS at 54.74°) narrows lines when rotation is fast enough. Rotor strength and diameter limit speed, so faster spinning reduces sample volume and sensitivity.

Bruker's CPMAS range covers 7 mm at 7 kHz and about 360 µL; 4 mm at 15 kHz and 106 µL; 3.2 mm at 24 kHz and 47 µL; 1.9 mm at 42 kHz and 13 µL; 1.3 mm at 67 kHz and 3 µL; 0.7 mm at 111 kHz and 0.6 µL; and 0.4 mm at 160 kHz and 0.12 µL. Volume therefore drops by roughly three orders of magnitude from the largest to smallest rotor.

HCN, HX, HFX and HXY probes support ¹H, ¹³C, ¹⁵N, ¹⁹F and low- or high-gamma X nuclei. iProbes reach 200 °C sample temperature, with standard-bore and wide-bore versions.

The 3.2 mm MAS CryoProbe spins up to 20 kHz at −20 to +60 °C and improves signal-to-noise by up to tenfold versus room-temperature probes. HX serves materials and HCN serves biology at 600–800 MHz in standard bores. Systems span 200–900 MHz with AVANCE NEO-X consoles.
