ultrafleXtreme is a MALDI-TOF/TOF system that the manufacturer describes as an industry standard. Its distinction within the range is analytical performance: resolving power up to 40,000 and mass accuracy of 1 ppm.

The manufacturer's qualification about these figures matters. PAN technology maintains the stated resolution across a broad mass range, rather than only at a narrow optimum. This is a meaningful distinction for time-of-flight instruments, many of which reach their specified resolution only at particular masses.

Applications include top-down, middle-down and bottom-up protein sequencing and glycoprotein analysis for biopharmaceutical research. The smartbeam-II solid-state laser operates at 1–2,000 Hz, reaching 2 kHz in TOF mode and 1 kHz in TOF/TOF mode. A FlashDetector is paired with a 10-bit digitiser sampling at 5 GS/s.
