Excite Pharos

Femtosecond pulses minimize heating and elemental fractionation in isotope analysis.

Excite Pharos uses sub-290 fs pulses at 1028, 257 or 206 nm, with continuously variable 1–65 µm spots.

Excite Pharos is the range's femtosecond laser ablation system. In place of a nanosecond ArF excimer laser it uses a Light Conversion Pharos with pulses shorter than 290 fs.

Ablation removes material before heat can spread, reducing thermal damage and elemental fractionation—the difference between aerosol and sample elemental ratios. This matters for isotope measurements and quantification without matrix-matched standards.

Three wavelengths, 1028, 257 and 206 nm, have independent optical paths and switchable configurations. Spot size varies continuously from 1 to 65 µm, repetition rate from 1 Hz to 1 kHz in 1 Hz steps, and pulse-to-pulse stability is 0.1% RSD. The compact laser head is sealed and factory aligned; the chiller is integrated. HelEx II washout is 700 ms, or 30–50 ms with ARIS.
