API-TOF

An atmospheric-pressure interface for research groups developing their own ion sources.

API-TOF connects external ion sources operating at 1–1,000 mbar to a time-of-flight mass spectrometer.

API-TOF is a time-of-flight mass spectrometer with an atmospheric-pressure interface designed for easy connection of external ion sources operating from 1 to 1,000 mbar. Unlike Vocus instruments, it has no integrated ionization system: users attach their own source through an adaptable mounting flange.

It is intended for research groups developing new ionization schemes. Power requirements and vacuum pump specifications explicitly exclude the source, which is external to the instrument.

Differential pumping proceeds in stages: 1–3 mbar at the first quadrupole, about 10⁻³ mbar at the second, about 10⁻⁵ mbar at the primary lens assembly and 10⁻⁶ mbar in the time-of-flight analyzer. HTOF and LTOF analyzer versions differ in size and weight.
