Two ionisation methods in one instrument: a fragment spectrum for library matching and a molecular ion for formula determination in a single analysis.

ecTOF is a time-of-flight detector for gas chromatography with simultaneous electron and chemical ionisation, 10,000 resolving power and a 1–5,000 Th mass range.

ecTOF is a time-of-flight mass spectrometer designed as a gas chromatography detector. It contains both electron ionisation and chemical ionisation sources, with ion optics that switch between them at rates of up to 100 Hz.

This combination is valuable for identifying unknown compounds. Electron ionisation produces a fragment spectrum suitable for library matching, but often destroys the molecular ion. Softer chemical ionisation preserves the molecular ion and helps establish molecular mass. Both spectra can be collected from the same chromatographic peak in one analysis.

The instrument can be coupled to common gas chromatographs. Vocus PTR and Aim reactors additionally enable direct real-time analysis. The HRP chemical ionisation source can be serviced without venting the system.
