Diffusible hydrogen in under 30 minutes without mercury, using a 900 °C IR furnace.

G4 PHOENIX DH measures weld hydrogen with thermal conductivity or an optional mass spectrometer to ISO 3690/AWS A4.3.

G4 PHOENIX DH is a dedicated diffusible-hydrogen analyzer for welds and sheet metal. The range transferred from Bruker to XRF Scientific in April 2026. Diffusible H causes cold cracks in high-strength welds; this system reports in under 30 minutes without mercury, versus days for a classical mercury method.

A water-cooled IR furnace heats to 900 °C around a 30 mm quartz tube, with optional sample thermocouple. An alternative resistance furnace reaches 1100 °C with an 18 mm tube; heating/cooling are programmable. DH uses thermal conductivity at sub-ppm levels; the MS version uses quadrupole MS for low-ng/g hydrogen and deuterium.

Samples follow AWS A4.3. Nitrogen carrier gas must be at least 99.995% pure (99.9990% for traces) and at 2 bar. Automated ten-volume dosing calibrates with pure H₂/He or certified mixtures. Cooling water is 1 L/min at 3 bar.
